We entered the Bay of Islands at 0700 this morning, light high level cloud, but as beautiful as ever. We had dolphins playing under our bow, a little way off a school of porpoises, together with a baby porpoise, leaping from the water behind its mother, something we have never seen before.
Ahead of us gannets were diving on a school of fish, and flocks of sea birds lazily paddled out of our path. We were back in a place I truly love, it is so different.
We arrived on the Quarantine dock at 09.45, and again the same customs officer that Elaine and I had on board last year, welcomed us as soon as the lines were fast, and stepped on board to handle the entry formalities, followed by MAFF, again polite, helpful and thoughtful, what a change from other countries who could learn so much from the Kiwis!!
Across the pontoon were our friends on Pacific Bliss, Colin, Liz, Cosmo and Zinnia, who we last saw in the Galapagos, a great welcome!
The boat is now a lot cleaner, and we are now off to the Opua Cruising Club for a roast dinner and to meet up with many friends, and then a good sleep tonight.
